In the quiet community of Conway, South Carolina, the life of 32-year-old Phillip Jerome Huggins was tragically cut short on a Friday in June. Known fondly as 'Pablo Juan' to his friends and family, Huggins was a 2008 graduate of Conway High School and had grown up attending the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Bucksport. He was a father to five children.
On the evening of June 11, 2021, events took a violent turn on Bucksport Road.
An altercation occurred where Huggins was reportedly beaten with a contractor's level before being shot. He was rushed to Conway Medical Center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Horry County Coroner's office later confirmed his death.
The day after the fatal shooting, law enforcement made an arrest in connection with the case. John Edward Brown Jr., a resident of Conway, was taken into custody on June 12, 2021. He was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. While an arrest has been made, authorities have not publicly released a motive for the deadly assault.
