On Sunday, May 3, 2020, a violent incident occurred in Greenville, South Carolina, claiming the life of Kamille Dequeze Anderson, a 22-year-old Black male known to his loved ones by the nickname "Pop Mack." Authorities responded to a call regarding a person lying in the roadway, where they discovered Anderson unresponsive. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office subsequently launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances of his death, which was determined to be the result of gun
violence.
Anderson was a native of Greenville and the son of Yolanda Harris and the late Larry Anderson. His passing left a void in a large family structure, including his mother, maternal grandmother Gayle Harris, and paternal grandmother Sharon Anderson. He was survived by ten siblings: six sisters named Ke'Mauri Simmons, Kelanni Simmons, Swandaysia Anderson, Franterria Mayer, Koshri Lyles, and Lavonia Mayer, and four brothers identified as Jaswan Anderson, Treveion Anderson, Travius Mayer, and Ezekiel Durham. Friends and family remembered him for his caring personality and a "million-dollar smile" that often brightened the lives of those around him.
Following the discovery of his body, law enforcement officials began collecting evidence and seeking information from the public to piece together the events leading to the shooting. While the Greenville County Coroner and police investigators confirmed the nature of the death as a homicide, public records and available reports from the time of the incident did not immediately name specific suspects or announce arrests directly linked to his murder.
