In the summer of 2020, a violent and tragic event unfolded in a Goose Creek, South Carolina neighborhood that resulted in the death of Jose Torrez-Padilla, a 39-year-old Hispanic male. On the evening of July 3rd, an armed robbery attempt on Oakside Drive quickly escalated into a triple homicide.
Torrez-Padilla, along with Salvador Dominguez, 32, and Acacio Carro, 45, were confronted by two individuals intent on robbing them. The encounter turned deadly when all three men were shot.
While one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, Torrez-Padilla and the other man were rushed to a nearby hospital where they ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office launched an immediate investigation into the brutal slayings. Their efforts led to the swift apprehension of two suspects just three days later, on July 6, 2020. Jabaari Kayon Ferguson and a 16-year-old juvenile were taken into custody in connection with the murders. Investigators believe the duo was involved in a string of armed robberies that specifically targeted Hispanic residents in the Goose Creek area. The arrests brought a small measure of relief to a community shaken by the violent loss of three of its members.
