In the quiet community of Goose Creek, South Carolina, the life of 29-year-old Brandon Gregory Cobbs Jr. was abruptly cut short on the afternoon of Friday, February 9, 2024. That day, police were summoned to the Saint James at Goose Creek apartment complex on Channing Way, responding to a harrowing call about a man who had collapsed on a resident's front porch with a gunshot wound to the head. Upon their arrival, they found Cobbs, who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the violent death of the young father of two immediately commenced, leaving a family and community in mourning.
The ensuing investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 30-year-old Davon Dwayne D'vor. D'vor was taken into custody and formally charged with the murder of Brandon Gregory Cobbs Jr. His arrest brought to light a concerning criminal history. Between 2018 and 2019, D'vor had faced a series of charges including weapons, burglary, and drug offenses, as well as a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. In connection with a violent crime in May of 2019, he pleaded guilty to a single count of attempted murder. While prosecutors sought an eight-year sentence for this crime, the judge imposed a four-year sentence. D'vor began his sentence on September 14, 2022, and was released just three and a half months later on December 30, 2022.
The community gathered to remember Brandon Gregory Cobbs Jr. during a homegoing service on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Faith In Action Christian Fellowship in North Charleston. He was laid to rest in Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery. The narrative of his untimely death serves as a somber reminder of the impact of gun violence, leaving behind his children, Zayden and Harlym, and a family left to navigate their profound loss.
