In the fall of 2020, a young man's journey to serve his country ended in tragedy on a rifle range in Columbia, South Carolina. James Noel Zamora, an 18-year-old male, lost his life on November 5, 2020, while participating in basic combat training at Fort Jackson. A native of California, Zamora was an active duty soldier assigned to Company D, 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment.
On that Thursday, an incident occurred at a rifle range that resulted in a fatal injury to the young private.
