In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Aiken, South Carolina, the life of 18-year-old Joseph Jamar Copeland was tragically cut short. On April 25, 2021, the young Black male was the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident occurred around 12:18 a.m. near an apartment complex at the intersection of Barnwell Avenue and Kershaw Street. Copeland and another teenager were seated inside a vehicle when unknown individuals opened fire, striking Copeland.
