In the early morning hours of June 20, 2021, a burst of gunfire outside Eddie's Minute Mart on Abbeville Highway in Anderson, South Carolina, shattered the predawn quiet and left two men dead and another wounded. Tevin Jerian Telford, a 29-year-old Black male from Anderson, was among those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. He was a father who was deeply involved in his children's lives, never missing one of their sporting events.
Known affectionately as 'T-Loc,' he was remembered by his family as a great father, son, and brother.
Deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at approximately 3:00 a.m. to find a chaotic situation with multiple gunshot victims. Telford had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was rushed to AnMed Health Medical Center, but tragically, he was pronounced dead. The Anderson County Coroner's Office later ruled his death a homicide. Another man, 27-year-old Shane Michael Ware of Belton, also died from a gunshot wound to the chest sustained in the same shooting.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led to the arrests of three men. One of the individuals taken into custody was Jamal K. Jones, who had also been injured during the altercation. He was subsequently charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Two other men were also implicated in the events surrounding the shooting. Spencer Leverette was charged with unlawfully carrying a pistol and being an accessory after the fact to a felony. Another individual, Andretti Gross, faced a charge of unlawfully carrying a pistol. The investigation by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's Office continued after the initial arrests, with authorities indicating that further charges could be forthcoming as they worked to piece together the full sequence of events that led to the tragic loss of two lives.
