In the summer of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Direko Thomas was cut short in a burst of gunfire in West Columbia, South Carolina. On the afternoon of Saturday, July 24th, Thomas was on Miranda Road when he was struck by multiple bullets in his upper body. The Lexington County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene, leaving a community in shock and a family grappling with a sudden and violent loss.
