On September 19, 2021, a violent incident occurred in the parking lot of the Old School Lounge on West Market Street in Anderson, South Carolina, resulting in the death of 24-year-old Shyquan Kendrell Kinard. Authorities were dispatched to the scene after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the Anderson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Kinard succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting. For approximately a month, detectives gathered evidence and interviewed potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the death of the young Black male. The inquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding the altercation in the lounge's parking lot, which had ultimately escalated into lethal violence.
In October 2021, investigators announced a breakthrough in the case, identifying 30-year-old Savayea Antwan Glenn as the primary suspect. At the time charges were brought against him, Glenn was already incarcerated at the Anderson County Detention Center on an unrelated charge of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. Deputies served Glenn with an arrest warrant for murder in connection with Kinard's death while he remained in custody. A judge subsequently denied his bond, ensuring he would remain detained as legal proceedings moved forward.
Shyquan Kendrell Kinard, affectionately known to his friends and family as "Glizzy" or "Shy," was a resident of Anderson and an employee at the local Electrolux plant. He was remembered by loved ones for his "Kool-Aid" smile and his passion for music, having pursued rapping as a hobby since his youth. He left behind a grieving family, including his mother and siblings, who mourned the loss of a young man whose life was abruptly cut short.
