Deputy Constable John Burt McAdams, aged 43, tragically lost his life on February 20, 1909, in Anderson, South Carolina. McAdams was responding to a disturbance in the Orr Mill employee village when he was fatally shot. The incident began when one of the mill workers, who had become intoxicated, started firing his gun in the village. Deputy Constable McAdams approached the man in an attempt to calm him down, but the man suddenly shot him.
