In the quiet Columbia, South Carolina, community, concern grew when Subrina Jackson Westberry unexpectedly failed to appear for her job. This uncharacteristic absence prompted her employer to request a welfare check on the evening of Thursday, September 23, 2021. What responding deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department discovered behind the doors of the Newpark Place home was a scene of tragedy.
Inside, they found the bodies of 59-year-old Kenneth Wayne Westberry and his 60-year-old wife, Subrina.
Both Kenneth and Subrina had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Their 27-year-old son, Kevin Jackson Westberry, who lived with his parents, was present at the residence when law enforcement arrived. Initially, he reportedly told deputies that he had not heard from his parents and suggested they might be in Charleston. However, a search of the home led to the grim discovery of the couple's bodies in the master bedroom.
Following the discovery, Kevin Jackson Westberry was immediately detained by deputies. He was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the deaths of his parents. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. The motive for the double homicide has not been publicly disclosed by authorities. Autopsies were scheduled to be performed to confirm the cause of death for both Kenneth and Subrina Westberry.
