In the early morning hours of October 15, 2021, the life of 26-year-old Dimitri Ali McDaniel was tragically cut short in a shooting incident on Dotts Circle, just outside the city limits of Darlington, South Carolina. Another individual was also wounded in the attack, which took place at approximately 6 a.m.
Dimitri, a father and a graduate of Hartsville High School, was remembered as a dedicated and hardworking man.
After graduating in 2015, he received training as a machine operator and went on to work for several years, including a four-year tenure at A.O. Smith in McBee. He was known by his loved ones as a devoted father to his daughter and a supportive son and brother.
For months, the investigation into Dimitri’s death continued without any publicly named suspects. Then, in early June 2022, the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office announced a significant breakthrough in the case. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Shaim Freeman Peterson and Taekwon McFale were taken into custody and charged with murder. A third individual, Duana Benjamin, was also arrested and charged with being an accessory to the crime.
