In the early morning hours of December 13, 2021, the life of 28-year-old Erron Javier-Javan Johnson, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a shooting that erupted inside Player's Place Billiards and Sports Bar on Ashley River Road in North Charleston, South Carolina. The incident, which occurred around 2:09 a.m., resulted in multiple injuries.
Johnson was rushed to the Medical University of South Carolina, but he was pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting led to the swift identification and apprehension of a suspect, Quantas Mortee Green of Johns Island. In his attempt to flee the scene, Green was injured by a police K9 unit and was subsequently taken into custody. He was later charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Erron Johnson. In addition to Johnson, two other individuals were struck by gunfire during the chaotic event, with one sustaining minor injuries while trying to take cover. The circumstances that led to the shooting inside the bar have been the subject of an ongoing investigation, with questions raised about the adequacy of the establishment's security measures at the time of the incident.
Erron Johnson's death left a deep void in the lives of his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, children, siblings, and grandparents. Funeral services to celebrate his life were held on December 22, 2021, at The Royal Baptist Family Life and Banquet Center in North Charleston, allowing the community to come together to mourn his passing and remember the man whose life was so violently taken.
