In the quiet community of Ridgeland, South Carolina, five-year-old DeAndre Robinson was joyfully jumping on a bed in his family's home on the evening of December 28, 2021. The simple, innocent act turned tragic when a bullet from a drive-by shooting pierced through the wall of the house and struck the young boy. The shots, fired around 9:15 p.m. in the Wagon Branch area, created a scene of chaos and disbelief for the family inside, who were otherwise unharmed.
DeAndre’s family rushed him to a nearby fire department, from where he was transported toward Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
DeAndre was a kindergartener at Ridgeland Elementary School, a joyful and active child who loved to dance and sing along to his favorite movie, 'Sing'. His parents, Deanna Frazier and Andraye Robinson, described him as the center of their world, a silly and beloved only child who enjoyed playing video games and wrestling with his dad. In the wake of his senseless death, his parents initiated a social media campaign with the hashtag #JusticeforDeAndre to honor his memory and plead for answers.
The investigation into DeAndre's death, a joint effort by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, soon led to a suspect. Gregory Harris Scott, a 23-year-old man from Beaufort, was identified and apprehended. In May 2025, Scott pleaded guilty to murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the fatal drive-by shooting.
Further investigation revealed that Scott's sister, Mittie Scott, was also implicated in the crime. She was charged as an accessory before and after the fact of murder, with reports indicating she had previously lived next door to DeAndre's uncle. While Gregory Harris Scott has been convicted for the murder of the young boy, the case against his sister is still pending, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
