In the early hours of March 6, 2022, a violent encounter in Chester County, South Carolina, claimed the life of 30-year-old Kevin Bashon Feaster. The incident, which unfolded around 12:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Powell Drive, was the tragic culmination of a dispute that left another person dead and several others wounded.
Feaster, a resident of Chester, was shot and died at the scene.
He was a father of two sons and was known by friends and family as a loyal and caring individual with a natural talent for football and basketball. In the chaotic moments of the shooting, four other individuals were also struck by gunfire. These victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of the wounded, 31-year-old Shonta Neely, succumbed to her injuries on March 9, 2022. Authorities described Neely as an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
Investigators quickly identified Vangereil Dretreckes Miller as the suspect in the deadly shooting. It is believed that the motive stemmed from a previous altercation between Miller and Feaster. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Miller fled the area, prompting a multi-agency manhunt. He was considered armed and dangerous, and the U.S. Marshals Service, along with the FBI, joined the search effort, offering a reward for information leading to his capture.
The search for Miller concluded on August 31, 2022, when he was apprehended in Fort Worth, Texas. He was held in Texas pending extradition to South Carolina to face a series of charges, including two counts of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon. At the time of the shooting, Miller was reportedly out on bond for previous unrelated shooting incidents and was wearing an ankle monitor that he had removed.
