In the early winter of 2022, the life of 21-year-old Demarques Rascoe-McCallum of Green Sea, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On the night of Tuesday, December 6th, an incident unfolded in the Longs area of Horry County that would lead to his untimely death. Rascoe-McCallum was at the Sun House gas station on South Highway 905 when gunfire erupted.
Following the shooting, he was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Demarques Rascoe-McCallum succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. The Horry County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and the nature of his death, prompting the Horry County Police Department to launch a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting.
Authorities were alerted to the situation after an individual reported that their car had been shot at on Old Wilson Road, with two other people in the vehicle at the time. The investigation into the death of Demarques Rascoe-McCallum is ongoing. To date, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests made in connection with the shooting, nor have any suspects been officially named. The case remains an active investigation as law enforcement officials continue to seek information from the public to bring closure to the family of the young man whose life was abruptly taken.
