Dennis D. Crane, a 28-year-old police officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, tragically lost his life on June 1, 1900. Officer Crane was responding to a disturbance near a hospital at Broadway and Osage Streets in St. Louis, Missouri. The suspect, who was waving a shotgun around, suddenly shot Officer Crane in the chest during the arrest attempt.
