Richard Jarrett, who served as the Sheriff of McDonald County, Missouri, met a tragic end on July 16, 1900, in South West City, Missouri. At the age of 40, Sheriff Jarrett was attempting to arrest an escapee from the Pineville Jail. The suspect, who had initially surrendered without resistance, requested to go upstairs to retrieve some clothes before being taken back to jail.
