Officer James E. Basham, aged 47, tragically lost his life on April 19, 1908, in Warrensburg, Missouri. The incident occurred at the Hotel Estes, where Officer Basham, along with City Marshal James Ryan and another officer, attempted to disarm a deranged man. The confrontation turned deadly when the man opened fire, resulting in the deaths of both Officer Basham and Marshal Ryan, and wounding the third officer.
