City Marshal James Ryan of the Warrensburg Police Department in Missouri met a tragic end on April 19, 1908. At the age of 48, Marshal Ryan was fatally shot while performing his duties. The incident occurred as he, along with Officer James Basham and another officer, was escorting a man to the Hotel Estes on South Holden Street near the railroad terminal.
