On the morning of December 1, 2012, in Kansas City, Missouri, 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins, a Black woman, was tragically killed in her home. The man responsible for her death was her boyfriend, 25-year-old Jovan Belcher, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs. The couple's relationship had been described as troubled, and in the hours leading up to the fatal incident, they had been arguing. Perkins had attended a concert the previous evening, and Belcher had been out separately.
