On the night of November 28, 2014, a violent tragedy unfolded in the northern neighborhoods of St. Louis involving a 19-year-old Black male named Kyle Hill. The incident occurred just one day after the Thanksgiving holiday, casting a pall over the weekend for the local community. Police officers were summoned to the 4000 block of Peck Street shortly after 11:15 p.m., responding to reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Hill suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders transported him to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation revealed that the violence stemmed from an altercation earlier that evening near a nightclub. Hill and a 20-year-old male companion had attempted to enter a bar located in the 3500 block of Kossuth Avenue but were denied entry. This rejection reportedly sparked a verbal dispute involving the victims and another man outside the establishment. As Hill and his friend walked away from the venue and headed back toward their vehicle to leave the area, the situation escalated from words to lethal force. Authorities determined that the assailant approached them from behind and opened fire, striking both young men. While Hill’s injuries proved fatal, his 20-year-old companion survived gunshot wounds to his flank and thigh.
Law enforcement identified the suspect in the shooting as 27-year-old Tarron Anderson. Following the investigation, prosecutors charged Anderson with first-degree murder for the death of Kyle Hill. In addition to the murder charge, Anderson faced two counts of first-degree assault regarding the surviving victim and three counts of armed criminal action. He was taken into custody and held without bond as the legal process against him commenced.
