Leon Rivers, a 34-year-old Black man, was killed on the night of January 14, 2015, inside a home on Cates Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri, in a sudden burst of violence that began at the front door and ended in a single shot to the chest. In the Fountain Park area, the house was full of family—children and grandchildren moving through their routines—while Rivers spent the evening visiting in the back of the home with Tameka Whalen, in the laundry room, talking and passing time.
