On the afternoon of April 2, 2014, violent tragedy struck the West End neighborhood of Saint Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 35-year-old Black male Michael 'Mike' Hennings. The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Belt Avenue and Cote Brilliante, directly across the street from Langston Middle School. Hennings was sitting inside a parked vehicle accompanied by 27-year-old Ashley Townsend when the ambush occurred.
