In the winter of 2015, a life was tragically cut short in Saint Joseph, Missouri. John Baynham Jr., a 26-year-old man, was inside the First & Last Chance Tavern on February 5th when an altercation erupted. The dispute escalated to a fatal point when another individual, Luis Villegas-Rosa, drew a weapon and fired three shots at Baynham.
The gunshots left Baynham deceased inside the bar, and Villegas-Rosa fled the scene.
However, thanks to tips from witnesses, law enforcement was able to apprehend him a short time later. Villegas-Rosa was subsequently charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the shooting. He was held without bond pending his arraignment.
Further investigation into the incident revealed a deeper story connected to gang-related activities. This led to Villegas-Rosa's indictment in a broader federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act case, along with other individuals.
