On the evening of April 2, 2015, a violent shooting incident occurred in the north side of St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 37-year-old Leron Johnson. Around 8:22 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of Cates Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that Johnson was not the only individual targeted during the altercation. A short time after the initial shooting, police located a 30-year-old man in the 900 block of North Kingshighway, who was also suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Although this second victim was initially uncooperative with authorities, investigators determined that he had been shot at the same scene on Cates Avenue. He was taken to an area hospital and listed in serious but stable condition.
According to statements provided to law enforcement, a 23-year-old man who was at the scene described the events leading up to the violence. He told officers that he was sitting in his vehicle visiting a 45-year-old acquaintance when two unidentified men approached them and opened fire. The 23-year-old was able to retrieve his own weapon and return fire at the attackers before fleeing the area and contacting the police. Neither he nor the 45-year-old he was visiting sustained any injuries during the exchange. Following the incident, authorities reported that no arrests had been made in connection with Johnson's death.
