On a summer afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri, events unfolded that would ultimately lead to the tragic death of 56-year-old Ewon N. Wright Sr. The incident began around 12:30 p.m. on July 14, 2015, in the 3800 block of College Avenue, where an argument escalated to violence. Wright was shot and found outside a residence, critically injured. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he fought for his life for more than two weeks before succumbing to his injuries on August 1,
2015.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Kansas City police officers began an intensive investigation. Witnesses at the scene provided a lead, suggesting that the shooter might have fled to a residence in the 4300 block of Benton Boulevard. Acting on this information, police went to the address and made several attempts to make contact with anyone who might be inside. When their calls went unanswered, they eventually searched the home but came up empty-handed; the suspect was not there.
The investigation into Ewon Wright's death continued, and eventually, a suspect was identified and apprehended. Dominique Lindsey, born on February 28, 1992, was charged with the murder. In a press release dated January 5, 2018, the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office announced that a Jackson County judge had convicted Lindsey of second-degree murder for his role in the fatal shooting of Ewon Wright.
