In the summer of 2015, a violent encounter in a south St. Louis apartment cut short the life of 36-year-old Antwon Binion Sr. The male victim died on August 21, 2015, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The events unfolded when Jerel Carroll, accompanied by another individual, arrived at Binion's apartment located in the 300 block of Eichelberger. Both men were reportedly armed.
Carroll forced his way into the residence, where he confronted Binion's 17-year-old son.
He proceeded to pistol-whip the teenager and fired a shot in his direction. Following this initial assault, witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots coming from within the apartment. When the violence subsided, Antwon Binion Sr. was found to have been shot multiple times. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In the weeks following the deadly shooting, police identified Jerel Carroll, 36 at the time, as the primary suspect. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder for his role in the death of Antwon Binion Sr. The investigation indicated that Carroll was the individual who forcibly entered the home and initiated the violent confrontation that led to the fatal shooting.
