In the autumn of 2015, a Kansas City, Missouri, man's life was tragically cut short, a sorrowful event that compounded a family's recent grief. Ronald L. Pruitt, a 35-year-old male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Monday, October 5, 2015. The fatal shooting occurred inside a home located in the 8100 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard. Police were initially called to the residence for a disturbance, but the situation escalated to a report of a shooting.
Investigators at the time believed the homicide was the result of an earlier conflict at the house. The incident marked a devastating period for Pruitt's family, as his half-brother had been killed just ten days prior in a separate shooting.
Following an investigation into Pruitt's death, two local men were taken into custody. Jeremiah Ingram, 21, and Rowdy D. Davis, 30, were subsequently charged in connection with the homicide. The charges brought against both men included second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Prosecutors highlighted a specific legal strategy in this case, using the illegal possession of a firearm as the foundational felony for the murder charges against both Ingram and Davis. This approach meant that both could be held accountable for the murder, as they were both illegally armed during the commission of a felony that resulted in a death. Court documents indicated that Ingram, Davis, and another individual were armed with handguns when they entered the residence where Pruitt was killed. A bond of $250,000 was requested for each of the accused men.
