Rita Buffington, a 33-year-old woman from Bloomfield, Indiana, was found dead on August 6, 1994, in Shake Lake No. 2, located within the Greene-Sullivan State Forest. Buffington had been reported missing on July 28, 1994, and her body was discovered about ten days later. Authorities determined that she died from a gunshot wound to the head, classifying the case as a homicide.
