On May 2, 2017, law enforcement officers in North St. Louis County, Missouri, responded to a call regarding a vehicle accident during the early morning hours. Around 4:00 a.m., police arrived at the intersection of Prigge Road and Riverview Drive, where they located a car that had veered off the roadway and collided with a utility pole. Upon closer inspection of the scene, what initially appeared to be a routine traffic crash was reclassified as a homicide investigation.
Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Freddie Donald. He was a resident of the area, living on Geraldine Avenue in North St. Louis. Following his death, information surfaced regarding his personal life, noting that he was a father to a daughter named Fallon and was engaged to be married to his fiancé, Andrea Robinson. He was also survived by several siblings and extended family members.
As the St. Louis County Police Department investigated the circumstances surrounding the death, they determined that the shooting had occurred inside the vehicle. Investigators established that Donald had been sitting in the front passenger seat of the car at the time of the incident. It was alleged that two individuals positioned in the backseat of the vehicle were responsible for discharging the weapons that killed him.
Police subsequently identified two suspects in connection with the murder: 22-year-old Sherrod Greenlaw Jr. and 20-year-old Darris Simmons. A search for the men extended beyond state lines, leading to their apprehension in Tennessee. Both men were taken into custody and extradited back to Missouri. Prosecutors charged Greenlaw and Simmons with first-degree murder for their alleged roles in the shooting death of Freddie Donald.
