In the autumn of 2017, the life of a promising University of Missouri student was tragically cut short. Richard Walter Ward III, a 20-year-old male, was fatally wounded in a shooting on the evening of Saturday, October 7, 2017, in Columbia, Missouri. He succumbed to his injuries the following day, on October 8, 2017, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
