Stephen D’Angelo Combs, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot on November 5, 2017, in Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. The incident occurred outside the R&R Mini Mart located on Airport Road. Combs was found at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting took place just days before what would have been his 28th birthday.
Following the homicide, investigators released surveillance images from the convenience store in an attempt to identify a person of interest. Police sought a woman seen in the store prior to the shooting, distributing flyers with her image to the public and hoping for leads. The local CrimeStoppers organization offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. During the course of the investigation, reports emerged indicating that DNA evidence recovered from a hat found at the scene played a critical role in identifying a suspect, leading to an arrest in connection with the Ferguson murder.
Family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil in the parking lot of the R&R Mini Mart to mourn the loss of Combs, whom they described as a 'laid back' individual with a 'pure heart.' His cousin, Allison Clemons, spoke to local media, characterizing him as a loving, family-oriented man who was always willing to help others. He was a graduate of Vatterott College and left behind three brothers and one sister. His loved ones remembered him by his nickname, '2 Steph,' and expressed deep grief over the sudden act of violence that claimed his life.
