In the winter of 2018, the life of a young father was abruptly cut short in the Tower Grove South neighborhood of Saint Louis, Missouri. Ziyaa S Umarov, a 23-year-old male who had moved to the United States from Russia nine years prior, was found inside a car, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds on January 12th. He was discovered by his girlfriend of two years, Samantha Bates, and others who came across the tragic scene.
Bates described him as a kind-hearted person who would do anything for anyone.
A passerby, Tia Richards, noticed the panic and stopped to help, performing CPR on Umarov in an attempt to save his life. Despite her efforts, Umarov succumbed to his injuries, dying in his girlfriend's arms. His death left two young children without a father. Friends and family remembered him as a person whose presence could light up a room.
In the initial stages of the investigation, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department made two arrests in connection with the shooting. It was believed the suspects had stolen a car on Lindell to carry out the crime. However, the two individuals were later released from custody due to a lack of sufficient evidence. As of the reports that followed the incident, the police had no suspects, and the question of who was responsible for Ziyaa Umarov's death remained unanswered, leaving his loved ones searching for justice.
