On a cold evening in University City, Missouri, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet on the 1200 block of Meyer Street. When police arrived shortly before 7 p.m. on January 31, 2018, they discovered a man and a woman critically injured, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The male victim, later identified as 27-year-old Allen Young, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to 26-year-old Zachary Ward. Ward was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Allen Young. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced charges of assault and two counts of armed criminal action.
Following his arrest, Ward was held at the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond. Court records indicated that he had several prior convictions, which included unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest. The investigation into the double shooting remained ongoing as the legal process against the sole suspect commenced.
