Michael Silas Jr., a 22-year-old man, was fatally shot in Kansas City, Missouri, on the night of May 11, 2018. The shooting occurred in a parking lot near the Uptown Theater around 11:28 p.m., as a concert was concluding. Arriving at the scene at 37th Street and Broadway Boulevard, police discovered Silas with a gunshot wound.
Just months before his death, Silas had experienced the loss of his infant daughter in February.
According to his mother, Margo Lampkin, this profound loss had spurred him to change his life for the better. He had moved from his old neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas, started a new life with his girlfriend, become involved with his church, and secured a full-time job as a forklift operator. His mother described him as having become a 'homebody,' intentionally distancing himself from past troubles.
Lampkin believes that individuals from her son's past may have been responsible for his death. She stated that she had heard a 'past associate' had seen him at the concert and may have contacted others. Despite this lead from the family, law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The investigation into the death of Michael Silas Jr. remains without a publicly announced resolution.
