In the early hours of June 1, 2018, the life of 27-year-old Jordan S. Schiager, a White male, was tragically cut short in his Blue Springs, Missouri, apartment. What unfolded was a harrowing tale of a friendship warped by a days-long binge of cocaine, alcohol, and psychedelic drugs, culminating in a violent end that the perpetrator would later attribute to divine instruction.
The incident took place at the Burr Oak Apartments on Northwest Duncan Road.
Responding to a chilling confession, police discovered Jordan's body in the master bedroom, concealed under a blanket and bearing several gunshot wounds to the head. The scene was further disturbed by various items, including a fan and guns, which had been thrown upon his body.
The architect of this tragedy, 29-year-old Tiffany Phommarath, presented herself at the Blue Springs police station shortly after the event. With blood on her hands and clothes, she admitted to shooting her friend. In a statement to investigators, she recounted a multi-day drug binge with Schiager that led to her losing her job. She claimed that after consuming LSD-laced gummy bears, she began hallucinating, seeing colors, and feeling as though she was 'one' with Schiager. It was in this altered state, she alleged, that she heard voices she believed to be God, compelling her to shoot him.
Following her confession, Phommarath was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Jackson County prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000. During her interview with detectives, a crying and remorseful Phommarath referred to herself as a 'murderer' and a 'monster,' expressing that the events felt like a dream and that she could still smell the gunpowder on her hands. The investigation found a Ruger 9mm handgun on a pillow next to Schiager's head and recovered spent shell casings and drugs from the apartment.
