A simmering feud between two old friends living under the same roof in Blue Springs, Missouri, erupted in deadly violence, leaving one man dead and the other facing a murder charge. The victim was identified as 47-year-old Jarrod T. Young. His longtime friend, Jared M. Bailey, 43, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the fatal shooting.
The tragic incident unfolded on March 3, 2022, at a home on SW Gladstone Drive, where a juvenile’s frantic 911 call reported that his father had just shot a family friend.
Upon arrival, Blue Springs police officers found Bailey outside the residence and took him into custody. Inside, they discovered Young’s body in an entryway, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators found no weapon on or near Young. An autopsy would later reveal that Young had been shot seven times, with the bullets entering his body from an elevated position, a detail that would later contradict the shooter's account of the events.

Bailey claimed that the 6-foot-4 Young, who was taller than him, advanced toward him in a threatening manner, causing him to fear for his safety. He stated that he closed his eyes and fired his. 40-caliber handgun multiple times. However, this claim of self-defense was challenged by the physical evidence. The downward trajectory of the bullets and the fact that Young was unarmed raised questions about Bailey’s version of the story. Furthermore, a 12-year-old witness told investigators they saw their father draw a weapon from a holster and shoot Young several times. As of the latest available information, Bailey was being held in the Jackson County jail on a $250,000 bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
