In the summer of 2007, a wave of violence was washing over Indianapolis, leaving families and communities reeling. It was during this turbulent time that the life of 28-year-old Paul H. Curry III, an African-American man, was tragically cut short. On the night of August 3, 2007, a knock came at the door of his apartment in the 3600 block of Merrick Way on the northwest side of the city. When Curry stepped outside to see who was there, he was met with gunfire.
