On the evening of July 20, 2017, police in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a reported shooting near the intersection of East 28th Street and Walrond Avenue. Upon arrival at the scene around 5:40 p.m., officers discovered a 25-year-old Black male, identified as Daveon Cooksey, inside a parked vehicle. He was suffering from apparent life-threatening gunshot wounds.
