On the evening of September 10, 2018, a violent incident unfolded at a residence on West Mill Street in Springfield, Missouri. At approximately 8:18 p.m., the Springfield Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting at the location. Officers rushed to the scene and discovered a male victim lying outside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Paramedics transported the injured man to Mercy Hospital for emergency treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The victim was identified as Anthony A. Correa, a 27-year-old male who lived in Springfield. Following his death, investigators with the police department’s Criminal Investigations Section began processing the scene for evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the shooting. The investigation quickly moved forward as detectives worked to identify the person responsible for the fatal encounter.
Two days later, on September 12, 2018, police arrested a suspect identified as Lucky L. Davis. The 33-year-old Springfield resident was taken into custody by officers within the city. The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office subsequently filed serious charges against him, including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. Davis was booked into the Greene County Jail, where he was held on a $500,000 bond as the legal proceedings commenced.
