In the midst of a particularly violent stretch in Saint Louis, Missouri, 23-year-old Teon Buchanan, a male, lost his life on September 23, 2018. His death was one of six homicides that occurred in the city over a single 24-hour period, a fact that deeply concerned both the community and local law enforcement. Police responded to a call at 8:41 p.m.
and discovered Buchanan inside a vehicle in the 900 block of Canaan, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Buchanan's death quickly revealed that it was the result of a dispute that had spiraled out of control. He had been in a vehicle with two other men when an argument broke out, leading to the fatal shooting. This tragic event was immediately treated as a homicide, prompting a thorough investigation by the Saint Louis Police Department. Though another individual with the last name Buchanan was killed on the same day, police did not believe the two incidents were related.
Following the shooting, a 25-year-old man who had been in the vehicle with Buchanan and had sustained gunshot wounds to his hand and leg was arrested, along with another suspect. In December 2018, charges were brought against Bari Franklin, 25, in connection with Buchanan's death. He faced charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of armed criminal action. Franklin was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
