On the night of November 6, 2018, police in Dellwood, Missouri, responded to a call regarding a person down in North St. Louis County. At approximately 10:30 p.m., officers arrived at the 1500 block of Chambers Road, specifically the parking lot of a Valvoline Instant Oil Change facility. There they discovered the body of 21-year-old Donald Lang, a male resident of St. Louis County who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation, assisted by the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and the North County Police Cooperative, quickly identified a suspect. Authorities tracked the individual to the Nantucket Garden Apartments in the nearby municipality of Florissant. During the subsequent raid of an apartment there, police apprehended 17-year-old Tarron Gill. A search of the residence yielded significant weaponry and contraband, including two AR-15 style rifles, a handgun, a bullet-resistant vest, and quantities of suspected heroin and fentanyl.
Following his arrest, Tarron Gill was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Lang's death. Prosecutors alleged that Gill was responsible for the shooting, though law enforcement initially did not confirm if the specific weapons seized at the apartment were the ones used in the homicide. A judge set Gill's bond at $500,000 as the case proceeded through the St. Louis County court system.
