In the winter of 2019, the life of 17-year-old Izaiha Jon McFarland was tragically cut short in Kirksville, Missouri. On the evening of February 6th, an argument escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a community in mourning and a family devastated. Izaiha, known for his charming personality and love for fishing, four-wheeling, and basketball, was at an apartment in Kirksville when two other young men, Andrew Head and Drake Zanoni, arrived.
The conflict reportedly stemmed from a sense
of disrespect the two felt over Izaiha's presence at the apartment. In a senseless act of violence, the dispute ended with Izaiha being shot in the chest. He was rushed to Northeast Regional Medical Center, but the wound proved fatal. His unexpected death sent ripples of shock and sorrow through those who knew him as a funny and witty young man with a strategic mind for cards and a passion for life.
The investigation into Izaiha's death led to the arrests of Andrew Head and Drake Zanoni. Prosecutors laid out a case detailing how Head had encouraged Zanoni to shoot Izaiha. In June 2021, a jury found Andrew Head, then 20, guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action for his role in the killing. He was subsequently sentenced to 27 years in prison.
The alleged shooter, Drake Zanoni, was also charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following his arrest, he awaited trial to face the accusations against him in the death of Izaiha McFarland, a young life ended far too soon.
