On March 17, 2019, a violent confrontation in St. Louis, Missouri, claimed the life of Richard Kladky, a 35-year-old white male. The incident unfolded outside a residence where Kladky had recently moved. He had relocated to the new address earlier that same day, seeking to distance himself from rising tensions at a previous shared living arrangement.
Despite his efforts to remove himself from the conflict, the dispute followed him to his new home.
Witnesses reported seeing a white sedan pull up to the property that evening. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Collin Aubuchon, exited the vehicle and opened fire. Kladky attempted to flee the sudden ambush, running from his assailant, but he was struck by multiple gunshots. Reports indicate he was shot five times and succumbed to his injuries at the scene before emergency responders could save him.
The shooting was the culmination of an ongoing personal dispute between the two men, who had previously resided in the same sober living facility. Investigators learned that the animosity stemmed from flirtatious text messages Aubuchon had exchanged with Kladky's wife. This conflict prompted Kladky to move to a different facility to avoid further hostility. However, Aubuchon reportedly utilized GPS technology to track Kladky’s location to the new residence on the very day he arrived.
In a rapid conclusion to the manhunt, Aubuchon surrendered himself just minutes after the shooting. He approached a private security officer at a nearby business, confessed to the crime, and was subsequently taken into police custody. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Legal proceedings eventually led to a conviction, with Aubuchon receiving a 13-year prison sentence for his role in the slaying. Additionally, the case implicated his father, David John Aubuchon, who was sentenced to one year in prison for providing the firearm used in the attack under false pretenses.
