In April 2019, a violent incident occurred in Dellwood, Missouri, a suburb within St. Louis County, resulting in the untimely death of a local teenager. On the night of the shooting, first responders were dispatched to a residence located in the 1700 block of Cargill Drive following a report of shots fired at approximately 9:55 p.m. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered the victim, 15-year-old Curtis Marshall, inside the home suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The
young male victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment; however, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The North County Police Cooperative requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to lead the homicide investigation. Detectives learned that Marshall had been shot after answering a knock at the front door of the residence. No other occupants in the home were injured during the event.
The investigation quickly narrowed in on a suspect who was an acquaintance of the victim. Authorities identified Jalin Jefferson, who was 14 years old at the time of the offense, as the individual responsible for the shooting. In February 2020, following a certification hearing, a judge ruled that Jefferson would be tried as an adult despite his age. Consequently, he was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was ordered to be held without bond as the legal proceedings commenced.
