On the evening of July 3, 2019, 19-year-old Camryn Richardson, a Black male, was found fatally shot in the backyard of a home on the 5900 block of McArthur Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. First responders discovered that cash had been taken from his wallet, suggesting a robbery had occurred.
The investigation into the death of the young St. Louis resident led the Metropolitan Police Department to an 18-year-old suspect named Jayron Phillips.
Detectives uncovered text message conversations on Richardson's phone that indicated he had made arrangements to purchase three firearms from someone in the vicinity of where his body was ultimately found. The phone number from which the messages originated was traced back to Phillips.
Following the investigation, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office brought formal charges against Jayron Troy Phillips. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action for his alleged role in the shooting death of Camryn Richardson.
