In the late summer of 2019, a wave of violence shattered the community of Saint-Louis, Missouri, culminating in the tragic death of 34-year-old Kara Ball. On August 29th, a series of brutal acts unfolded, leaving two women dead and a community in shock. Kara Ball, a female resident of the city, found her life cut short in a senseless act of violence that began with a carjacking and ended in a double homicide.
The perpetrator, identified as 30-year-old Anthony Liston, embarked on a crime
spree that began with the theft of a Jeep Cherokee. His path of destruction led him to a gas station where he shot and wounded a woman. From there, he proceeded to an apartment on Michigan Avenue, a place he would later claim he 'never felt welcome.' It was in this apartment that the lives of Kara Ball and another woman, 39-year-old Lisa Georgieff, were tragically taken.
Liston forced his way into the apartment and opened fire, shooting Georgieff in the chest and Ball in the head and groin. A man present in the apartment was also assaulted by Liston. While Georgieff was pronounced dead at the scene, Kara Ball was rushed to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Following the horrific events in the apartment, Liston's rampage continued as he attempted to steal other vehicles. His violent spree was brought to an end when a group of employees from a nearby business intervened, subduing him until law enforcement arrived. Anthony Liston was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of charges for his heinous actions.
The aftermath of the violence left a grieving community and devastated families. Liston was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with numerous other felonies including armed criminal action, assault, and attempted robbery. During police questioning, he admitted to the killings, citing his feelings of being unwelcome at the victims' apartment as the motive for his actions.
