In what began as a violent robbery attempt, 39-year-old Ashleigh Selmon, a female resident of University City, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, was tragically killed. The incident unfolded on a Sunday evening, September 15, 2024, when her son was working on his car in the parking lot of their apartment complex in the 6400 block of North Drive. Two men, later identified as 20-year-old Carlione Boyd and 22-year-old Terrell McCann Jr., approached him.
The situation quickly escalated when
one of the men allegedly put a gun to the head of Selmon's son. In a desperate act of self-defense, he managed to disarm one of the assailants and fired at both of them as he retreated towards his apartment. In the ensuing chaos, one of the suspects, despite being wounded, returned fire. A bullet from this exchange tragically penetrated the door of the apartment, striking and fatally wounding Ashleigh Selmon. Her son entered their home to find his mother on the floor with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have since apprehended both suspects. Carlione Boyd and Terrell McCann Jr. have been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree attempted robbery. One of the suspects was reportedly paralyzed during the shootout. Both men are being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. The case is proceeding through the legal system.
