On the evening of March 19, 2020, a fatal officer-involved shooting occurred in Wheeling, Missouri, involving a 33-year-old male named Kyle Anthony Eichler. The incident began when a deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop or otherwise encountered Eichler’s vehicle. According to initial reports from authorities, the deputy experienced difficulties with the driver during the interaction.
The situation escalated, leading the deputy to discharge their service weapon, striking Eichler.
Following the confrontation, Eichler was transported to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, Missouri, where he was later pronounced dead. The deputy involved in the shooting also sustained injuries during the altercation and was treated at the same hospital before being released. In the aftermath of the event, the Livingston County Sheriff requested that the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the use of lethal force. The deputy was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this inquiry. No reports indicate that the officer was arrested or charged in connection with the death.
Eichler, a resident of Chillicothe known to friends and family as 'Kool Kyle,' was remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, cutting wood, and working on vehicles. He left behind two children, a daughter and a son, as well as his parents and siblings. His obituary highlighted his compassionate personality and his willingness to help others, noting that he would often give the shirt off his back to those in need.
